Holidays in Dominican Republic Golf
Ohio native, Pete Dye grew up around golf. He is very interested in Callaway x22 tour. His father built a golf course with 9 holes on the family farm, and the young Pete helped take care of it. Later, while in the Army, which took over Course at Fort Bragg.
During a trip to Scotland in 1963, Dye was fascinated by the design characteristics of the links style courses there. These include deep pot bunkers, railroad ties, sharp green contours. He returned to the States to start a career in course design, the construction of what were considered then a very unconventional design influenced by what he saw in Scotland.
Now, Dye, 70, is one of the world's leading golf architects golf with a portfolio of hundreds of courses, many of which are in the top 100 list of everyone in the world. These include the course at the Tournament Players Stadium Golf Club at Sawgrass, PGA West, the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island and Whistling Straits, site of the 2004 PGA Championship. His work also includes a collaboration with Jack Nicklaus in the port GolfLinks Town in Hilton Head, SC.
Of all his masterpieces, Teeth of the Dog, the world-famous seaside layout in the House Campo Resort in the Dominican Republic, is its most special. Dye and his wife Alice, also an architect of the field that has contributed to many of his designs, have a house on the golf course and the Dominican Republic call their spiritual home.
Presented by the southwest coast of the island irregular, Teeth of the Dog was built the old fashioned way. Some 200 local workers removed the dirt and cut in thick undergrowth by the sea by hand. Dye is fond of saying that he designed 11 holes and God did the other seven. These are located directly on the sea and include some of the par three most dramatic in the world.
Since 1998, Dye began working at Dye Fore, a course laid out on a majestic plateau 300 feet above the Chavon River gorge. It is a real tour de force with a vision of the plane as the river and the sea beyond. With its sidewinder, tone down streets largely treeless terrain, the course, which opened in 2001, extends a huge 7740 meters from the tip and is the first course in the world that uses a system of irrigation with saline water.
Dye says, "Casa de Campo has been my life. I always say the House Country is my favorite place. The courses are as good as I can build and there are 30,000 people who have jobs because of them. "
