The most important tool to adjust Vista Registry is the Registry Editor (Regedit.exe), which lets you view and edit manually content of the Windows registry. The Registry Editor window is divided into two pots on the left contains a tree with keys that are represented as folders. The right side shows the values contained in the selected specific key. There are several adjustments you can make using the editor registry. Among them, some of Vista registry settings are important:
Appearance settings
- To remove the tooltips that appears dull when you mouse over something:
- Open the Registry Editor by typing regedit Run option in the Start menu.
- Select HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion> Explorer> Advanced.
- Set ShowInfoTip = dword: 00000000
- Quit Registry Editor and restart the system
- open regedit and select HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT lnkfile
- Rename IsShortcut available pan right to AriochlsShortcut
- Exit Regedit and restart the system
- Type regedit Open HKEY_ CURRENT_USER> Control Panel> Desktop
- Set the value of MenuShowDelay specify the time required for menus appeared
- Exit Regedit and restart the system
Security Settings
To define the User Account Control (UAC):
a regedit) Open Type and select HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion> Policies
b) Set the value of PromptOnSecureDesktop to 0, which disables the desktop security to provide easy UAC
regedit c) Quit and restart system
User Settings
To change the registered owner:
a regedit) type and select Open HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion
b) right click and select Edit RegisteredOwner
c) Insert the correct owner
