What is the best style of swim wear for an intermediate swim class? Are Nautica and Polo Sport trunks okay?

Regarding to swimwear, if you are just taking regular classes, as in learning how to swim, normal swim trunks, as worn here in the U.S. are OK; however, once you advance to competitive swimming, you ought to think about getting yourself a pair of "real" swim trunks, for example "Speedos". Yes, I know that they are frowned upon over here, but for swimming, especially when we are talking speed swimming, bermuda type shorts/trunks will only hinder you. You'll never be able to pick up the appropriate speed in those. They soak full of water and blow up, not even to mention if they have pockets in them. The pockets can actually, as you may be aware of, float up to the surface and that will definitely slow you down. Swim fashions have changed a lot over the last years, they even have "boxer brief style" or "biker shorts" type
trunks available now. Some men just don't like the short cut "Speedo" style trunks. Vanity; however, has no place in competitive sports. Actually, I don't think it has any place anywhere, but definitely not in the world of sports. Now go, have fun and swim your heart out
