Bonsai Tree - Black Pine / Pinus Thumbergii Tips and Information
Hello all bonsai devotees. How are you? My name is Suhendro. I want to tell my experience on how to keep, treat and create black pine bonsai. Perhaps this experience is only suitable for tropical and hope the black pine plants which themselves will have different experience to share. I have tried to plant black pine from 5 years ago (around 1980) when I got the seed from a friend traveling abroad.
I have met and fallen in love with black pine bonsai, since I had learn about bonsai two years from a foreign book on how to treat and create bonsai by practicing directly, so that gradually mastering it. When I heard that the book, I saw a picture of black pine and Cemara (Junipero) bonsai that were so beautiful and sturdy. More even the black pine, with its crust cracked so that it looked old, antique and elegant. According to Taiwanese bonsai producer, black pine could live in winter and summer. At these stations, the leaves are still green and flourishing, so that we can call it evergreen. Of the books I read, I'm sure that this tree can grow in the tropics. From that moment I was determined to get that type of tree and tried to plant and grow in Indonesia.
In the mids of 1980, I and my old man went to Taiwan to attend an international exhibition of bonsai. While looking for new trees to enrich the variety special bonsai in Indonesia, from Taiwan brought me home some types of bonsai that had always been seen in some foreign bonsai books that we could not find in the market Indonesia (before 1985). They are: Hokkien Tea (Carmona mycrophylla) Pyracanta (Pyracanta Grenulata), Ulmus (Ulmus Parfiflora) Kimeng Karet (Ficus microcarpa). After the purchase of the bonsai, one thing we must not forget that my main goal is the search for Black Pine. Aside from my pocket money for returning home, I spent the rest to purchase different types of pine trees, from seeds, young trees, half-grown bonsai, and grown-bonsai.
Some Taiwanese bonsai producer I said Black pine (Pinus Thumbergii) grows best in comparison to any other plant pine. There are three types of Black Pine:
1. Those with long leaves (which typically lasts on the market).
2. Those with short leaves (Seu Sung).
3. Those with mini sheets (Zuen Sau Hei Sung).
The three Black Pines are the most preferred by bonsai producer from Taiwan to be dwarfed. Besides that, I have learned some techniques on how plants and treat black pine that I want to share with you.
PROCESS before sowing
Coming home, I had washed all my trees, because it is forbidden to take the soil of Taiwan. This regulation is among the countries to prevent the spread of plant pests. Then I opened the plastic lid of mos (soil substitute covering the root so that stays hydrated throughout the trip), one by one. After all the roots that had been cleared of MOS was soaked in the organic fertilizer plant vitamin or liquid for about an hour. The last thing to do was keep the immersion liquid plant and planted it in the pot.
MEDIUM PINE (Suitable for Casuarina = Juniperus too)
3 BG of 1-2 mm sand (do not use sand dust) +
Bg 1 loose soil (do not use the sticky soil such as clay, etc.) +
1 bg humus (or compost to replace the humus).
After mixing well, can be used for the plant (you can see how the plant in a pot Article of Loa Variegata). I have a little story about sands. Around 1990 in Indonesia has found a sort of sand pit (Pasir Cerro) perimeter Malang, by what is called Pasir Malang (Malang pit sand). This type of sand was found by an amateur and raw materials (bakalan) bonsai hunter in nature. The specialty This sand is clean and free from dust or debris. We can say that it was free of parasites and germs that are usually found in soil or sand pit. So there is no need of having to wash more and has pores to keep water and air. There are several types of plants that are better being planted in the sand instead of any other means, ie Santigie (Phempis acidula) Cemara Udang (Casuarina equisetifolia), Black Pine, Cemara, etc. Naturally Malang pit sand is beneficial for bonsai enthusiasts and some devotees of ornamental plants such as cactus, Adenium, sansivera, etc. Then use this sand pit as composite media for the plant Black pine and other bonsai.
This process is being planted
After being planted black pine in a pot, the trunk must always be linked closely to the pot so that the tree is more stable. It's because any repotting tree is in critical period. Its root has not converged with her again media that has not functioned normally. Furthermore, when we cut some of the roots and new roots grow, the latter is still easily extinguished if agitated, and the tree will possibly died. After being tied, put in the shade, then the water perfectly (until the water leaves the pot bottom hole). What is there about two, but please do not leave it too wet or too dry. You better keep it a bit too dry to keep it wet, to avoid getting root rot. This will be different from what we should do to the growing black pine (see the following description of supply water). After two weeks the trees look healthy and strong with their green leaves. Now is the time for the tree has sunbathe gradually. Then, wait until the new outbreak comes, which is a sign that its new root has grown and the tree is ready to take a sun bath.
There are some fans bonsai who know the media and the process of planting, or do not have much patience in planting and treating black pine (which is different maintenance ficus or any other type of bonsai). Doing treatment improperly will lead to the death of black pine. When this happens easily say that the black pine could not be planted in Indonesia or be dead if it is to be re-potted. The worst is when there are bonsai hobbyists and sellers to just see photo in black pine bonsai books say the same things. This makes bonsai newbies or collectors being cheated and will not treat black pine.
TREATMENT OF ADULT BLACK PINE BONSAI
Pruning (cut leaves), you can do when we see the old leaves has been grown like yellow or a little boring. We can do this in two ways: to cut or leave. The best way is the second, which will remove the old leaves. To avoid removing the entire group of leaves, use your left hand to hold the bottom of the group leaves, and the use of your hand right to remove the old leaves one by one, and let the younger ones. If you prefer the first form, cut the old leaves about 1 cm higher than the stem of the leaf. This is to bring the new outbreak of the remaining old leaves. Unfortunately, the court should reveal Brown, and these traces unpleasant stay there for months before they disappeared.
To keep the twigs and leaves short and thick (to avoid distorted or to maintain the good condition), do the following:
1. Little little, remove the old leaves every year.
2. Cut the branches, twigs and new shoots once every two or three years. This is to keep the way of being undesirable. Two or three new buds usually come once a calendar year. Cut the very prosperous (large) and yolk very low (small) root by cutting the bottom. Leave the tips of moderate growth until they release their new leaves. Then cut to the length we want. Two weeks later, will reach the second outbreak trace of the court. If necessary, do the same with the second outbreak, so we're going to get the outbreak third. The second and third buttons to create short branches and leaves. This theory is the same with bonsai tree with large leaves in the country, but after what bonsai is planted in the pot by cutting the leaves several times, the leaves become small as Sancang (Phemna microphylla), beringin Karet (Ficus Ratus), etc.
3. When the leaves of the new outbreak have grown, not too cut branches when the leaves of the new buds has blossomed because at this stage, the court released a long trail of turpentine (SAP), which possibly will kill the tree. The best time to shape and cut branches is when we begin to see its old leaves (looks yellow and dull). This shows that this tree is temporarily stop growing and energy savings before launching their new outbreaks. It is the safest time to prune black pine pulling out or cutting and cut the branches too, because it is the strongest period of the trees.
EL CAMINO Repotting OF / CHANGE OF FLOOR OF BLACK PINE BONSAI
The process of transplanting black pine bonsai can be done once in three or four years because the black pine the root grows slowly. Do not repot before two years because their roots are not large enough. If replanting after 4 years, the roots will very dense in the pot, and this will slow their growth and fertilization.
If replanting in this way. After pulling the bonsai pot, we can see the piece of root that has converged with the ground. Strip 1 / 3 part of the entire tumor by scraping the land and root shearing that is too long. Then put back into the pot with the medium described above, by scraping, so that the tips of old roots can penetrate directly to and converging with new media. This will ensure your life after transplanting. Even cutting replanting or planting soil mass and the root of the floor as if we were cutting the cake and then plant again. Thus make the old root mass covered by the new medium, resulting in no heat and mass distributed Finally, the root will rot.
In my experience in planting black pine, you should not do pruning while repotting. Once my gardener did not follow my instructions. When I left the city and not monitor it, was repotting and pruning at the same time. This caused some half-grown black pine trees died.
In Indonesia, which has two seasons, the best time for replanting of black pine is between the end of the dry season and the start of the rainy season (early September), but pay attention to the condition black pine too. Repotting should be done when new outbreak has just come before the leaves blossom. When the leaves have a flower, then the tree will be weak and the risk transplanting will be bigger.
Well, that's my experience in treating black pine bonsai. Hope it will be useful for those who want to try and collect black pine bonsai.
