Is it acceptable to have a medium size dog in an apartment?

I have a dog, a Nova Scotia Duck tolling Retriever (medium size) I'm moving because I have emancipated from my parents and I moved with my swimming coach who lives in an apartment. There is a park nearby, would you rather my dog with me? I really need for the support, because my brother died last week and I tried to commit suicide do not think I can live without it.
