Why is the skin on the back of my Ball Python rough, red and gray?
My daughter's ball python just shed last week and the rest of her body is smooth and shiny as it should be....It is just on the 'spine' area more on her upper back that is red and course with some gray. She is still shedding right under her chin. Thanks for your help!!!!
I mwant to mention that some of her scales are falling off and showing her white and 'bloody? underskin.
I would recommend taking it to the vet right away! This is a slow and painful process, but it only gets worse. Any sort of antiseptic will work, if you dab it on the wound, but it won't cure it. Get it to a Vet right away, Scale rot is quite a serious issue.
Make sure that your daughter knows the proper husbandry for her snake! Too much humidity or not enough can easily cause a case of scale rot. At the early stages, it's quite easy to fix and doesn't require a vet visit. But the antibiotics, as well as the knowledge that you need, is only available from a Vet.
