Private Golf Clubs - Your first experience at the Country Club
A private golf club or a country club, is essentially a golf course and clubhouse that is open only to members. Most private clubs provide restaurants, changing rooms, showers, accommodation options and golf facilities that are often of a quality than public courses.
Typical clubs require an initiation fee, annual fee and often additional requirements to join as a reference sponsored by an existing member, employment in a company, a residence in a specific area, or sometimes by gender. For example, the Augusta National Golf Club headquarters of the Masters Golf Tournament, limited to male golfers.
If you are planning to join a private golf club or have been invited by a friend to play in a private field, there are some considerations to be taken into account before presenting for the first time "T" program.
1. Know the rules of the course.
In general, the rules of a particular course is clearly laid down in the clubhouse and first tee. If you're new to a private field, make sure you understand all them, as courses are different - and not be afraid to ask.
Most courses have rules requesting that golfers or their caddies replace divots, soften the greens and rake sand hazards. Always follow these course etiquette requirements.
2. Follow the dress code.
Normally private clubs have a dress code that forced players must wear collared shirts or baseball caps allowed. If you are unsure of a course dress code, call ahead and ask. Typically, golf courses require proper golf shoes with plastic spikes and frown on denim shirts, shorts and clothing is not appropriate.
