The artists behind the wheels of the Directorate
Though generally viewed in the manufacture of a car as an engineering achievement, is not that part of their decisions as art. Although most people think of art, definitely do not think of cars. And when viewing manufacturers engineering cars not displaying artists. However, the car that the majority of interacting with us, seats, steering wheel, instrument panel are work of artists more engineers.
For the car's interior and the exterior color, upholstery, materials lining panels doors and the seats are encapsulated products of the designers of automobiles. These are the people who bring art to industry.
They are defined as "the professionals involved in the development of appearance and to some extent ergo dynamics of road vehicles. "In the U.S. auto industry, which generally work as a team. A stylist will be responsible for the exterior. Another will be designing the interior, to decide on concepts such as shape and positioning of the panel instruments, seats, panel and door trim, headliners, and third, and work with colors and materials.
While these professionals have a knowledge of ergonomics and engineering, which are basically the artists and often trained in art schools. Each year, schools in more design transport to send hundreds of eager young graduates in design studies to become part of this equipment. And despite playing an important role in making our life comfortable ride everyday are basically unknown.
However, few have emerged from anonymity and made a name for themselves and a few of these also have worked independently, the entire vehicle design not only a part of it.
Harvey Earl, who worked for General Motors from 1927 to 1958 was one of them. In fact, Earl is credited with pioneering the art of designing cars in the U.S. industry. It was Earl who introduced the idea of "pre-design body "through the use of two-dimensional drawings and clay models. Earl's designs, from 1927 to the Firebird LaSalle 1958, are marked trends. Earl was responsible for innovations such as tail fins and panoramic curved windshield.
And on the other side of the Atlantic, two other artists is most famous for its innovations in design.
Giorgetto Giugiaro, who was born in Italy in 1938 is a prolific artist whose designs include more than 200 seats, more cameras, where the keyboard and pasta. The Fiat Panda 1980, VW Golf and 1971 Alfa Sud are just some of their products.
Giugiaro was responsible of the "folded paper" era of the '70 's with cars with straight lines and sharp edges. The Megagamma Lancia, the first multi-purpose vehicle, Giugiaro was also a creation. The Lancia was the inspiration behind the Nissan Prairie, the VP first to experience massive sales.
Giugiara received Car Designer of the Century Award in 1999 and has been awarded a place in the Hall of Fame Motor in Dearborn, Michigan.
Another designer Italian popularity is Marcello Gandini. Gandini, only 19 days younger than Giugiaro, designed his first car when he was only 20 years old. He is responsible for the Lamborghini Miura.
It is men like these that continue to inspire young graduates and fuel their dreams to stand out from the pack. And they are also responsible for our creature comforts as we are strapped in driver's seat.
