But there are other things that a potential owner can expect to live in one of the Fort Bend County gated communities?
Well, some sites you can visit while living in the area are Brazos Bend State Park, the Challenger Center, the Community Theater, the fair and livestock show, the Fort Bend Museum, the monument to George genealogical collections, the Centre George, George Ranch Historical Park, golf courses, the Great Southwest Equestrian Center, Morton Cemetery, Railroad Museum, the Richmond Historic District, former district Rosenberg, Seabourne Creek Park, Sugar Land Ice & Sports Center and the Museum of History South.
In the Brazos Bend State Park, 4897 acres of lowlands near the Brazos River have been preserved, with majestic oak trees and deep lakes adorn park grounds. Residents of these communities can expect to see alligators, waterfowl, coyotes and white-tailed deer in the park. Nature lovers can spend hours fishing, or picnicking. The fourth curve Challenger Center is also located within the state park and is a monument to the seven astronauts who died in the Challenger vehicle space (which erupted in 1986). The Community Theater is a nonprofit organization that provides entertainment to residents and visitors to the Fort Bend gated. Even hosts children's theater programs, including those in preschool.
Fair Fort Bend County and livestock show is another to treat people living in the community can look forward to seeing. It takes place from late September to early October each year and is attended by a lot of school bands, with floating drilling rigs and highlighting the ten days of performances by bands, folk and country dancing, young and exhibitions adult oriented, auctions, rides, and even a great meal.
If you want to know how this area became inhabited by early settlers, look no further than the award-winning Museum of Fort Bend. You will discover how the Old 300 was based on the initiative of Stephen F. Austin to start the settlement of Fort County Bend, and can dive more than 100 year history of the area and the entire state of Texas.
You'll also learn why some communities between the County Fort Bend gated carry interesting names such as New Territory and First Colony. If you are a long-term resident in the area, but want to know how far behind its roots in the county actually go, you can visit the Monument to George Genealogical Collections. Do not worry, no charge for admission.
Fortunately, this area also boasts its own observatory, telescope which is considered the largest in the United States, which is open to the public. Visitors schools and other groups of tourists are allowed to visit. The observatory is located in Brazos Bend State Park.
In the George Ranch Historical Park, one can walk again in the story of four generations of farmers in the state. It is available for public tours daily.
Golf, which seems to have become the national pastime, you can enjoy four golf courses: the Old Orchard Golf Course, Golf Club at Cinco Ranch, Greatwood Golf Course, and the Meadowbrook Farms Club Golf.
If horse riding is more your thing, try going to the Great Southwest Equestrian Center. There you can see many horse shows and events. Is there someone in the family, maybe a little Tike yours, I want to learn to ride a horse? Then, this complex of riding is the place to go.
Morton Cemetery might interest those who would like to know where the first settlers of Fort Bend County now buried. Perhaps someone in your family was among the first settlers? Then have taken time to put fresh flowers on his grave, as his way of paying homage to the ancestors of yours.
