A Brief History of Golf and different types of golf clubs
Before starting to learn to play golf, let's see how the game began. This first series tips will give you the history of golf and some fun facts.
The first reference to golf as we know it was mentioned in 1297 in the Netherlands. The Dutch rules of the game with a stick and a leather ball. He who hits the ball the least number of times to enter the goal, he won.
In Scotland, King James II banned the game of golf (with football). Apparently, sports kept his subjects from their archery practice. The ban stayed in place for the next three kings, until 1502.
King James IV of Scotland lifted the ban on golf, because he took the game itself. King James also bought the first set of golf clubs, designed by a local arms manufacturer.
Mary, Queen of Scots (daughter of James IV) loved to play golf. In fact, in 1467 was punished for playing golf a day or two after her husband was murdered.
In 1744, the Honorable Company of Edinburgh Golfers in Scotland (the first official golf society) developed 13 rules of golf. They also announced that golf represented Gentlemen Only, Ladies Forbidden.
EL CLUB DE GOLF
Today standard golf club consists of three parts: the head, shaft, and grip. This next set of tips will explain each of these and tell you why they are important.
Head
The club head is the final part that makes contact with the golf ball. Heads of today are mostly made of zinc and alloys aluminum. Heads have various shapes and weights that make up the twelve clubs established standard.
Axis
The axis is the longest part of the club that connects the head and grip. You can get your lines of two different components: graphite or steel. Graphite is best for beginners. You can also have its axis as to suit your height.
Grip
The grip on your club is on the top, and that you have when the oscillation. It is important that you change your grips often because it can harden, rust, stains of obtaining and losing control. A good rule of thumb is to change your grip every six months.
TYPES OF GOLF CLUBS
There are basically three (sometimes four) types of golf clubs. The next set of tips will describe them and what they are used.
Forest
Woods are great heads, hollow clubs. They are used for long shots (over 175 meters from the green). They are assigned a different number loft call, which tells how the head is angle. A standard set of clubs has three forests. These generally consist of:
1 timber (also called the driver)
3 wood
5 wood
Irons
Irons are used mostly for shots within 200 meters from the green. A standard set of clubs has eight irons: 3 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and the pitching wedge plate (discussed below). The closer the green, the higher the iron you will use.
Wedges
Wedges are really just special plates. (New formulation) increased by 4 degree loft wedges quantities, so come in 48 -, 52 -, 56 -, 60 - and 64-degree lofts, and are as follows:
Guidelines Wedge: 48 degrees
Approach Wedge: 52 degrees
Sand wedge: 56 degrees
Lob Wedge: 60 degrees
High Lob Wedge: 64 degrees
Putters
A golf set includes only one putter. This putter has a single job to get his ball into the hole. When you finally get on the green near the hole, use the putter to putt the ball gently into the hole.
