California Indian Resort attracts families
The Coachella Valley is a popular vacation spot for families. Palm Springs and nearby cities are the antidote congestion perfect against the big city life.
The cities of this valley have made good use of irrigation water by pipeline to transform the desert environment a cornucopia of luxury resorts, golf courses "around 120 at last count 'luxury shopping boulevards and palm trees as far as the eye can see. The fertile green lawns are carefully monitored by an army of gardeners and a drive through the neighborhoods of places like Palm Desert and Indian Wells is a window to the "good life" enjoyed by the well-to-do retirees, as well as upwardly mobile professionals.
However, never far from these houses meticulously maintained and property is the raw wilderness "a place where you can finally put space between you and other people, and enjoy what passes for a return to nature experience, but minutes will most likely enjoy modern luxury accommodations designed to pamper you from head to toe.
In our most recent trip to the desert we base a few miles east of Palm Springs in Indio, a comfortable neighborhood, but perhaps less extravagant than other parts of the valley. Out on the eastern edge of cities Coechella Valley, this area is undergoing a major transformation with several sets of houses have modern, spacious houses located along artificial lakes and waterways, five minutes from the motorway. It is in this same area a major new resort complex 'of the ski resort in the Indian' was built in recent years.
There are 453 condominium units in total and are built around a full sprinkler water park, canals, ponds, swimming pools and even an artificial river inner-tube float. The larger of the two pools is a huge 5,000 square feet. If you're anxious to get some exercise, take a look backetball the court, tennis courts, gym and recreation center. Golfers need to go beyond the golf course adjacent to the Terra Lago station.
Given the opportunities for recreation, not surprisingly, the Resort at Indio is especially popular among families. During our visit in a rare weekend warm spring, the large and small family groups were taking advantage of the pools and other facilities. Families spent hours in the spacious indoor pool. Come lunchtime, many walk the short distance back to their condominium units and fire from barbecues available on its terraces and patios. As expected, the rooms are really vacation rentals, not hotel rooms "Each unit comes with a full kitchen, multiple bedrooms, living room and dining room. Since the station is almost Again, everything is in perfect condition with the latest gadgets, colors and d? r.
As tempting as it would fall back on the pool every weekend wanted to go out and experience the desert. With daytime temperatures reaching the mid-90s, we went first thing in the morning, when they were in mid-temps of the 70's to mid 80's. Our goal was the Pinkham Canyon Trail in Joshua Tree National Park, just 20 minutes from the station. Our desert of activity: geocaching.
For those not yet enlightened, geocaching is a relatively new activity where you use hand-held GPS unit to find "caches" or boxes of goodies hidden in various places. There can be no hiding places in remote areas or in developed areas, or even in amusement parks such as Legoland near San Diego. What it really comes down to is a kind of Easter egg hunt for children and adults and, as we discovered, is a family activity.
If you have a Garmin GPS, which has a nifty software that interfaces with a major web site - www.geocaching.com to facilitate the search for these caches is relatively easy. Before getting on the road Pinkham Canyon, we went to the website and found a dozen caches that were in that particular area. The Garmin software has allowed us to download latitude and longitude of the caches in our GPS so we could see where they were on our GPS map. Once we were in the general area of the caches, we let our GPS lead us right to the location of the caches.
Some caches are easy to find on a lot easier, while others can be challenging and located in a terrain that is difficult to cross. It was to be a hot day, so we chose the easiest option - driving the trail four-wheel-drive and search for hiding on the road. We finally found nearly two-thirds of them and, of course, our children grade-school age were delighted to find each "Even though nothing of real value was. The idea is to take a trinket and leave a trinket of their own, is a" treasure "only in the sense that you will treasure this activity with their children. And it gave us the illusion, however, who had been "in nature."
Another 15 miles east of proof Pinkham Canyon on Interstate 10 is a great place to see a bit of military history at first hand: the General Patton Memorial Museum in Chiriaco Summit. The museum is a testament to General George Patton, one of the military heroes of World War II, and also their concrete involvement with the creation of the Training Centre of the desert, a desert landscape for the formation of the tank when U.S. troops need to prepare for war in North Africa. While Patton only ran the center for four months when Opened in 1942, was instrumental in the choice of site location.
The museum tells the story of the training, but also is a collection of artifacts from several wars like World War II. Not in a luxury building and does not compare, for example, World War II Museum in New Orleans, but it is a fascinating group of exhibits that take visitors closer to the realities of war. Through his collection of photos and documents, the museum offers an overview Patton and his historic contributions to the U.S. military. There are a variety of items actually used in war, the German machine guns Place gas masks, uniforms and equipment used by our soldiers in several wars in the past.
It is as if someone put a sign saying: "Bring all memories of war and leave it there. "
Outside the museum are several tanks and other Army vehicles that help visitors visualize what the war tank must have been in the Second World War. And it was easy to imagine hundreds of these tanks doing mock battle in these miles and miles of open desert a little over a half hour from now dazzling Palm Springs.
