batteries golf cart can change 4 12 VOTL 8 6 volts?

I have a 48 volt 2006 Car Club lifted cart with 4 12V batteries and I'm about having to get new batteries as original and not hold a charge long enough. Can I go to 8 batteries 6v in this car and this allows both more long term for a racing game to cover more territory? Tips, advice and suggestions are appreceated. Thank you,

You can connect eight batteries 6V in series with a single 48V battery. But all batteries must be the same size and capacity or can overheat and destroy the smaller battery capacity. Everyone 6v & 12v batteries are actually a group of 2V batteries connected in series. You want to do the same with eight 6V batteries. The important question is the physical space needed to mount eight batteries. Also ampere hour capacity batteries of 6V must be identical to or greater than 12V battery or you strength / range. More batteries not necessarily mean more resistance.
