PGA Tour 2010 ----
Where does Tiger Woods saga go? What will be the PGA Tour next season?
Amanda Blumenherst
Let me suggest that 2010 would be the perfect year to start after the LPGA Tour.
I know, the LPGA has been fighting lately. It has lost more than a few tournaments to its schedule in the last couple of seasons, and the scarcity of the winners of America in 2009 has made it difficult for some fans to maintain interest in the pro women's soccer here in the U.S. But brighter times are ahead of the LPGA and predicting some interesting results in 2010 a lot of new young players who love to follow week after week.
Mina Harigae
I had the opportunity to attend the LPGA Q school earlier this month in Daytona Beach (including caddy for one of the players) and I can say that Amanda Blumenherst is definitely a rookie again that deserves notice. Blumenherst Q won the five-day school event with a solid performance at 9-under par. She is the "real deal" and I would be surprised if it wins on the LPGA Tour next year.
Blumenherst has done what many of today's LPGA stars have not done so. He spent four years complete college, graduating with honors from Duke, where he was All-American and NCAA Player of the Year on three occasions. She is also a past Amateur champion U.S. women. Watching her play and manage themselves to reporters after his Q School victory was clear that she has the mental maturity to go along with the talent needed physically to compete at the highest level in the women's professional golf. The Scottsdale, Ariz., native also is so nice and pleasant a person as you will find on a golf course. The spectators in the events and television viewers will enjoy watching her play.
American golf fans should prepare for it them some exciting and hard fought battles in 2010 between Blumenherst and Michelle Wie. With their first victory in the LPGA this fall, Wie has finally "come in his own "as a professional golfer and most likely be at or near the top of the leaderboard in many LPGA events next season. Wie victory came just in time for the tour, which is hoping to capitalize on its popularity among golf fans. A rivalry between Wie Blumenherst and would be wonderful for the LPGA. Wie is already a household name, while Blumenherst is well known that women following courses, but failed to gain superstar status and to become the other name for home if they played to their capabilities.
There are several other young people who leave school and Duramed Futures Tour Q could also make their marks on the LPGA in 2010. In fact, the talent level on tour has probably never been higher. Some other LPGA rookies to keep an eye on the 2010 Mine Harigae Monterey, California, Jean Reynolds of Newnan, Georgia, and lack of understanding with South Korea's Cho. They won their LPGA cards to finish among the top three in the season money list on the Futures Tour, with each notching multiple wins in 2009. Reynolds drew national attention last summer when he fought victory at the U.S. Women's Open.
Between the other new LPGA rookie who earned their cards at Q School this month and could face in 2010 are:
Mariajo Uribe, Colombia
Marianne Skarpnord, Norway
Maria Hernandez, Spain
Gwladys Nocera, France
Lucy Kim, South Korea
Pernilla Lindberg, Sweden
Recari Beatriz, Spain
Lisa Meldrum, Canada
Azahara Munoz, Spain
Upcoming LPGA Commissioner Michael Whan has a job for him while trying to restore events that were lost during the last few years and accumulate the tour schedule for seasons to come. The LPGA is definitely not in the driver's seat in its relations current with the sponsors and organizers of the event. The number of events has decreased from 32 in 2008 to an estimated 24 in 2010. The tour will have to be as accommodating as can be when it comes to stock sizes and programming. You also need to do everything possible to build your fan base.
The LPGA has a new 10-year Coping with TV Golf Channel, starting next year. Expanding the coverage of their events, will be easier for fans to follow players and watch the action. Judging by the number of new and talented players who tee off in his rookie season, fans will have many reasons to start to attend LPGA events and follow the route on television.
