Can be overcome only a matter of some few meters with new teams with strength and flexibility, but time and technology, far more help. I have seen too many people out of shape (including me at one point) still drive the ball 290 + and others that are in great shape struggle to reach 250. The exercises are important and will be useful, but not all looking more likely. Just continue working on his momentum, and take lessons from a local PGA professional when you can and you should see an increase in the distance.
