The aura of migraine - Tricks of the brain
Migraines can be of two forms: with and without aura. The headaches themselves can be equally painful or aura is not present.
Statistics show that only about 20% of migraine sufferers actually experience these auras. However, I noticed that in fact the prevalence of aura type migraines is much less than that.
What is a migraine aura?
The aura is a distortion in perception. Most often a migraine aura is a visual impairment or other sensory phenomena that occur just before phase of migraine pain starts. The aura also typically ends before the headache itself begins.
Symptoms associated with auras may include flashing lights, geometric shapes, or distorted vision.
However, some people may have no visual aura involving hearing sounds (usually ringing), olfactory auras involving smelling odors, or tactile auras that manifests as a sensation of physical contact.
Features associated with auras include:
Blinking lights
Wavy or zig-zag lines
Visual spots or other forms
Blind spots or partial loss of sight
Blurred vision
Olfactory hallucinations, or smell the scents that do not exist
Tingling or numbness in face or limbs
Difficulty speaking or forming words
Confusion
Vertigo (dizziness)
Paralysis partial and temporary
Hearing loss
Reduced sensation to touch
Hypersensitivity to feel and touch
Migraine aura usually lasts 20 minutes to an hour, but some patients have been known to experience aura symptoms lasting up to two days. The aura symptoms of migraine can and do vary greatly from one migraine sufferer to the next.
"Negative symptoms" and "positive"
The most common aura consists of flashing lights or zigzag lines, known as so-called "positive" symptoms.
Partial or total of visual field loss or vision blackouts are called "negative symptoms".
A combination of so-called "symptoms negative "(such as loss of vision) with the" positive symptoms "(such as zigzag lines) make up the typical characteristics hallmark of a migraine aura.
Vision blackouts - the "negative symptoms" - are caused by a depression of nerve activity. By Furthermore, zigzag lines are caused by hyperactivity in the nerve cells.

The study of a particular type of migraine - Familial hemiplegic migraine (FHM) - recent results have shown two genes are responsible for causing this symptom. These genes - that control the flow of calcium ions, sodium and potassium to the nerve cells - is damage to people inclined to this type migraine. It is believed that this gene mutation causes a person's neurons susceptible to CSD.
In essence, the nerve cells (or neurons) do not receive properly "recharged" results in diminished or depressed neural activity. Whatever the reason, this reduction in activity slows down the operation normal body. If the affected neuron complex happens to control the centers of vision (visual cortex), then visual disturbances or losses may occur.
However, how are you neurons begin to react or recover from CSD, which may become hyper excitable, resulting in visual phenomena such as flashing lights and lines zig zag. (It is like the neuron offset by a rebound is in full swing!)
This hyperexcitability then activates the major nerve complex behind the eye (trigeminal nerve). This migraine is triggered by the activation of the very pain sensitive "dura - the membrane sheet wrapping around the brain.
Blocker drugs, calcium channel
Researchers speculated that blocking ion channels flowing through the membranes of neurons cells would help reduce the pain of migraine. Some suggested the use of drugs to delay and block these channels, for example, "channel blocker calcium, drugs.
Blockers, calcium channel (such as verapamil) are widely used to treat heart disease and high blood pressure. They are also now widely used to prevent migraines. Unfortunately, its efficacy in migraine prevention is minimal.
A better method
There is another option to cure migraine. Cure the migraine and not worry about their associated auras or pain again.
Recent reports suggests that migraines may actually be completely abolished as a series of elite medical clinics catering to women have testified. Under their treatment protocols, are completely eliminated migraines in 80% of their patients.
These successes are limited to only women, such as coping with women's hormones is the basis of the cure. Some clinics have published their treatment protocols and even made available to the public.
The Women's Health Institute Texas, believes that a migraine cure certainly eliminates entirely the aura of migraine - and the concern for the migraine headache that results can no longer be necessary, at least in women.
