A therapeutic metaphor for the Improvement of Golf - The Golf Hypnosis is not really
I was working with a client recently who wanted to improve golf without formal hypnosis he had a destructive problem when playing golf. Let's call Alan for the sake of client confidentiality. I changed some data and for the same reason.
Alan enthusiast in everything he does - work the family golf. Changes in priority sequence, but the enthusiasm is consistent across all the three. He is also the most honest and loyal to his friends as the day is long.
So let's focus on golf. Alan is a good golfer who work honestly, practicing or playing almost every day, somehow. He has a good swing on the greens is excellent and is an excellent putter instinct. He is good in visualization and practices and stepping into the shoes of their heroes in golf. Often their own practice with two balls - one that plays on your mind Tiger Woods and the other by Jack Nicklaus. He also works hard on his fitness with long walks across country and almost daily workouts in the pool - no matter the weather.
Alan problem in golf is that it always gets a lot worse than it should because of unforced errors - accidents could say. The main causes of these accidents are his desire to complicate the vaccine you need to play and will nullify the result of the merger. Instead of hitting a normal shot, which regularly can run consistently well - Suddenly decided to try something more complicated on impulse and do not think the shot. You will not be surprised to learn that these vaccines are usually disastrous and expensive!
Now Alan presented me with some problems. It would be easy to help them overcome their problem through the use of hypnosis for golf, but he seemed alarmed by the idea of formal hypnosis. Maybe he had a bad experience with stage hypnosis, or a "well informed" religious advisor saying that should have nothing to do with hypnosis! But he had come to me through a friend and I had agreed to help without using formal hypnosis.
The solution was to prepare a therapeutic metaphor, a complex story or set of stories. The aim is to keep your conscious mind busy with the complexity of the history of the unconscious mind is the literal meaning hidden in the central story. This allows the unconscious mind to find its way for him to overcome the problem. I knew that if history embedded in the midst of several other loosely related stories, would keep her conscious mind busy enough while my hidden message could get through of his unconscious.
So what should I use the metaphor? I knew that Alan is an enthusiastic supporter of football, so I decided to use a metaphor football. Now some of history based on facts and others are remembered only, so do not write me to tell me that's not what happened!
I had a first meeting with Alan and we sat in a quiet corner of the golf club and at the right time when they relaxed in conversation, I brought the conversation this story.
"I used to play golf with Dexter Adams, a former captain of England football in the 1950's-despite being an amateur and played for Hendon FC. Curiously, he had a friend named Billy Wright footballer, who also used to play golf, but it was the famous who used to play for the England and married one of the Beverley Sisters!
Now Dexter once told me about is actually a talented footballer Laurie calls. Laurie played a good game of football, "much better than me," Dexter said. He had all the abilities and skills to be in place right at the right time. But Laurie was failing to fulfill his promise. If he was faced with an open goal, he would try to hammer the ball into the top and certainly not just rolled in. If you could easily cross head past the goalkeeper, it would be a scissor kick. Of course that is often lost, but when he scored sensational in their own way, he forgot all misses. Unfortunately, Dexter said, the selectors did not. They knew it was a talent worthy of selection, but he could not afford to waste what could be the only opportunity Hendon FC to score in a tight game.
More Later I learned that Laurie later worked as a toolmaker in a machine tool company important in the Hendon area. He had been telling the story to my father and Laurie recognized as a man who worked at the company he ran. Laurie looked at the past and found that I had met Laurie when I worked there before going to Imperial College t.
The public loved Laurie as well, when he was on target, but began to boo loudly when he was not. Finally, Dexter fell Hendon told me after he reacted poorly to the adverse comments manager. Fortunately for him, Laurie had a good friend off the team that helped him realize that what I most wanted was to play for a winning team - a lot more important for him to score a goal occasionally outrageous. Without the need to seek the sensational opportunity to find his best with his concentration and consistency.
Laurie's new have succeeded in reserve games quickly convinced him to bring back manager in the club team and the national director began to notice how easy Laurie made the art of goal scoring. The national manager called for the selection English and quickly became a regular winner ever wanted for club and country.
He continued to test score a sensational goal more technical, but not in the course of a game. He dealt with the "practice for their own pleasure and for fun of his friends - "you never know when it might be useful and keep me strong," he said. But he knew his true satisfaction came to win. "
We finished our quiet conversation talking about this and that and they went their separate ways. A few weeks later, I heard from Alan. He said he had started to win more and play more consistently. He even told me he had passed some of his eccentric work - never before had described that way before. He even suggested that perhaps it was not necessary for us to satisfy our session first psychology course as their problem had disappeared. Fortunately, he had paid me in advance and he has a good return on your investment. It seemed a shame to say that he had made work, but I had to - to justify my fees.
