Baby's first shots...?
Today my daughter got her first combination of shots at her 2 month visit. It was the saddest thing I have ever seen in my life!! Is it normal to want to just scream at the nurse lol. Also, in the area where she got 2 of her shots on her leg, it is swollen up to like the size of a golf ball!! And her eyes are kinda poofy, but i dont know if that is from the crying or not. Is there anything i can do to comfort her more? Also, is the golf ball size ok?
FYI: I have given her generic tylenol due to the recall on childrens tylenol. But i gave her that about an hour and a half ago. And I took her temp before that and it was 99.2 which is normal for her age.
There are alot of known side effects to vaccines commonly given to babies, some your doctor may not have discussed with you. I suggest you get 2 books before her next scheduled shots, so you can be informed about what is really being put into her body. The first is The Vaccine Book, and the second is What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Children's Vaccinations.
In the mean time, contact your pediatrician as soon as possible. She could be reacting to the needle, or any number of ingredients in the vaccine. There is a national database for reporting any reactions to common vaccines, which can be found at http://vaers.hhs.gov/. This is the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System. You may want to call them after you see your pediatrician, so that you can describe her exact reaction in medical terms.
If the swelling gets any more severe, especially in the face, take her to the ER or Urgent Care, because her throat may start to swell and hinder breathing.
