ed in me the other day when a friend asked me why I have two seven irons in my bag, how much of what I'm wearing were golf gifts. In fact, my driver and my putter are the only two pieces of golf equipment that I went and bought. And even if the driver is indirectly the result of a gift of golf. This line of thinking led me to think about how much golf equipment I carry, or that I have hanging in my garage, which brings to mind the strong and caring people I have golfer over the years and have meant so much to me.
I received my first birthday gift golf when he was nine. An uncle, was and still is, a sports fan and my brother gave me every golf club, hoping that would get me interested in the game. My brother and I used biking a course in the country a few miles from the city. The golf was not as popular in rural areas for 45 years and we play a game or two, with only some clubs, not bothering anyone. I still carry that golf club and the occasional use of the lie hard, because the shorter axis junior works well when dodging tree branches. But the real reason is the club I have fond memories of those games with my brother and our uncle showed kindness in giving us the gift of golf birthday.
I have an old golf-cart pull clunky that I still use sometimes. It is something old and heavy with thin wheels, so donâ € ™ t use it so often. But I remember well that was a fatherâ € ™ s gift golf days we gave my father some 40 years ago. He has since passed and it brings good memories of the rounds we played golf together. When I was younger, I was often too busy with other things to play golf in the summer, so it seems like especially in the fall when my father and I used to play. So on a beautiful crisp autumn day, I like to leave the old golf cart and pull it through the yellow leaves.
My father-in-law didnâ € ™ t start playing golf until after he retired, he was about 67. It soon became an enthusiast, joined a club, and played almost every day for years. When I was 90, he was too frail to play a game, but still came and rode in the car, and strike out occasionally. I had been out of golf for a while when he started playing and he got me back into it. He gave me his old wood and promised to always fully achieved. I donâ € ™ t use it much, but I still sometimes worn for good luck, and memories.
My irons were a Christmas gift of golf with my wife and her daughter 10 years ago. Once again, I was at a stage in my life when I was too busy to golf a lot, but had to play from time to time in a golf tournament because of my job. So I decided I should at least have a decent set of clubs, even though my play at that time was not great. They helped me relax and get back in the game. I doubt if I will participate with golf clubs, although the technology makes them obsolete.
After coming to the plate and began to play more, I was still using the driver from my father-in-law gave me, but at that time, clubs were becoming large the norm. A friend of mine had a driver who couldnâ € ™ t fully achieved, so I gave it. He should have stuck with it, because it gave me great distance. Once I gained some confidence from another golf gift, I went and bought a new driver, the only club in my bag again (since I added a putter).
Golf gifts, whether for Christmas, birthday or fatherâ € ™ s day, donâ € ™ t have to be expensive, donâ € ™ t have to work and improve golf scores, to be appreciated in the coming years. Golfers brand associations and create memories of simple gestures, knowing which is the game and play it with that matters most. The relationships forged in golf is the greatest gift.
