Be a Golf Mentor
Those of us who have been playing golf for any length of time to understand that it is more than a game. There is no denying that golf instills certain physical attributes and that is a good exercise, but more than that, and most golfers I know wholeheartedly agree. This element extra offers golfers is a set of life skills that we use every day - we know it or not. This is true for new players and start learning the game and appreciate its full value not only in the field but in life in general.
But golf is not like basketball or football or baseball when it comes to our younger players. Children who want to play, but do not have the resources to purchase the necessary equipment or mentors that teach the game are more or less marginal. The truth is, golf can be horribly expensive, even at junior level.
So what can the average Joe do about it?
That depends on the amount you want to do.
If you live in a metropolitan area is likely to exist and mentoring programs in place. A call or a visit can take to make personal, active action by becoming mentors. If you do not have the time or feel as if you do not have the skills to teach others, maybe I can do other things to help the program. More on this later.
If you live a rural area or an area that simply does not have a mentoring program for all golf courses as well, consider creating your own mentoring program. You do not have to be a professional to teach a young man in the fundementals of the game. Schedule a talk with your manager course and discuss the idea with him or her and see if you can not resolve anything.
If you're not the type of tutoring, consider donating to a program. Many golfers (for at least the ones I know) have a club of old bags sitting in their garages that will never use again. Why let it gather dust and cobwebs? Give a program of your choice and let someone else enjoy them. Even if you only have some old clubs (ie, less than a complete game, or even an old putter or the driver) ... donate it / them.
Frankly, I think it's a kind of shame that children can not afford the clubs and have no one to teach them this game are left out. It need not be so, and you could be the one for the change in their community.
