Uniform of the Royal Navy
The uniforms of the Royal Navy have evolved gradually since the first uniform regulations for officers were issued by Lord Anson in 1748. The predominant colors of the Royal Navy uniforms are navy blue and white. Since reforms in 1997, all grades, regardless of gender, have worn the same dress uniform.

Reportedly, the officers called for its approval, because "I wanted to be recognized as being in the service of the Crown." [3] The "uniform" which consists of an embroidered blue coat with white lining, worn unbuttoned white trousers and socks, was used for ceremonial occasions, the "working platform" was a simple, uniform, less embroidered for the day to day use. In 1767 the best uniform was abolished and replaced by the working platform with a simple nudity "uniform for day to day use. In 1795, as a result of the French Revolution Wars, a plain blue "undress" coat had been introduced for daily use, and epaulettes were officially introduced. [1] In 1846 all officers wore epaulettes. The white facings came and went theyears, scarlet briefly (1830-1843). Although striped lace at the cuffs were used to distinguish the different ranks of admiral since 1795, the first version of current rank insignia, which consists of stripes with a "curl" on top, was introduced for all staff in 1856.
In 1825, white pants were replaced by trousers for officers serving in the United Kingdom, although the practice of wearing white trousers with naval uniforms continued for officers serving overseas (eg in the West Indies and China) until 1939. A Throughout the nineteenth century, there was great variation in uniform century, officials paid for their own uniforms, and often adapted to meet civilian fashion of the time, as the rules are not quite Admiralty uniform regulations. [1]
For service in tropical climates, with a white tunic and trousers were introduced in 1877, and replaced by a new design in 1938, comprising a white shirt and shorts. [1] During World War II, working a blue dress on the lines of war was adopted. Caps have white shirts all year round, and blue caps were abolished in 1956 [4].
The distinctive patches of white collar Midshipman first appeared about 1758.

Uniforms for ratings was first established by the Admiralty in 1857. Before of this, most seamen wore "slops", or ready-made clothing sold to the ship by a contractor; many captains established general by the rules of the appearance of the sailors on his ship, but there was little or no uniformity between ships. Once, in 1853, the commanding officer of HMS Harlequin paid for his crew to dress as harlequins, an incident that may have contributed to the decision of the Admiralty to adopt a uniform standard.
A number of changes have been introduced since the introduction of the first uniform valuation, including the elimination of the blue jacket in 1890, and the replacement of bellbottoms by flared trousers in 1977. In 1997 there was a significant program of standardization, which means that all ratings now wear the same dress uniform for the first time history.
Uniform present day
Today Royal Navy officers and ratings have several different uniforms, some are blue, some are colored white.

Female staff may wear skirts, except in the exercise of a sword or a rifle. [6]
Blue No. 2 dress
The mess dress is used at night for dinner. 2A is the formal evening dress for the dinners of worship, which consists of a "ball dress with [a] white vest (sash for female officers) with miniature medals. 2B is "mess undress" for the functions of another disaster, and is worn with a cummerbund and miniature medals. 2C, "red sea platform" is used for informal evening on board.
Blue No. 3 dress
This is used all year round for general duties, which consists of a white shirt with rank insignia on the shoulders, and appropriate headgear. For officers, NCOs and senior sailors, 3A dress includes a long sleeve shirt and tie, while 3B includes a short sleeve shirt with no tie. Junior ratings wear a short sleeved shirt, both uniforms.
