Is it any wonder kids are not interested in chemistry?
If all chemistry sets end up looking like a home- ec lesson?
I bought one for my kids - a first chemisty set.
Lots of info about being safe etc - Goggles / gloves - lots of plastic beakers. - Adult supervision required etc.
The chemicals -
Sodium bicarbonate.
Sand
Iron powder
- That's it!
I'll compare this to my fathers chemisry kit. -
Sodium chlorate, sodium nitrate, potassium nitrate, sodium thiosulphate,silver nitrate, calcium carbonate, sulphur, iron oxide, lead oxide, mercury, tin, lead shot, zinc, aluminium powder, Magnesium ribbon, copper, iron fillings, 3 bottles of the major acids, spirit burner, various distillation galssware and assorted glassware.
- Now that's more like it !
Sure he set fire to a few things - but it inspired him towards a career.
I'm getting a bit fed up with nanny state.
i completely agree with what your saying, but due to all the lawsuits and other stuff of today, you really cant put that stuff in children chemical sets anymore.
