VW Scirocco - Back For Good?
Most people know that the word derives from the Scirocco wind that comes from the desert Mediterranean Sahara know you did not you? Did you also know that the last Scirocco finally left the production line back in 1989?
Good after one year a thousand or less the absence of the Scirocco is back some say that by popular demand others say that the car manufacturers' attempts at recycling started with only the names! Whatever your opinion on the subject believe that the consensus of opinion is that the return of this sporty hatchback is an all-in welcome.
Scirocco's origins date back to the early seventies when they realized that VW would have to replace the beautiful but aging Karmann Ghia. To do this we had the help of Italian style guru Giorgetto Giugiaro, etc. Type 53 Scirocco or affectionately referred to as internal born.
First appearing in 1974, the Scirocco was a three-door sports hatch quite popular and sold around 500,000 units in 1981. A few subtle changes were made during the first years of production, but not until the second generation model arrived in 1982 that the car has improved significantly with engine power and torque up to nominal and a revised interior. The only spoiler mounted on the rear window over time became synonymous with the emergence Scirocco.
Production continued until around 1989 by which time a further disposals were 290,000, while still around from 1992 until the Scirocco has been replaced by the Corrado. Many enthusiasts of Scirocco remain however and there is an owner of the network is particularly strong in the United Kingdom.
After much press speculation VW introduced in 2006 the version of the Scirocco the Iroc concept known as the Paris Salon in 2006 and attracted a huge amount of attention.
The Scirocco went on sale March 2008 and has already divided opinion, but it is too early to say if the lovers of the old Scirocco cover the new model.
The Scirocco is a sports coupe GT three doors with a 2-liter turbocharged gasoline engine developing 200 hp. 0-62 acceleration is 7.5 seconds with a top speed of 146 mph for the version manual, although the automatic is only a second slower. A six-speed automatic or manual gearbox is available.
The Scirocco comes with ACC (Adaptive Chassis Control) which allows the driver to adjust the suspension settings to demand conditions and ESP (Electronic Stability Program). equipment Safety features include all-disc brakes with ABS and the airbag system of multiple points, including the driver and front passenger, plus front and curtain airbags as well.
Options include cruise control and hill hold control. The Scirocco comes with 18 "as standard, but alloys 19" are available if extra you want to really look the business. 2009 should see the arrival of version 1.4 of less powerful petrol engine with a diesel.
Early reviews of the GT have claimed that the car's handling is exceptional especially at high wind speeds low noise and precise curves. The interior has a sense of high quality as expected VW. Fuel economy is better than expected unless you drive the car very hard.
Apparently, the U.S. Vice President VW announced that it wanted The Scirocco will be released in the U.S., and would conflict with the sales of the Golf GTI a claim that was disputed later by the CEO VW said the final decision rested with him!
In general the residual value should be maintained, because of interest in the Scirocco so it only remains see if the new Scirocco is as popular as its predecessor, but I have a feeling more than beating that it will.
